1.  Katniss and Rue decide to bomb the supply fort of the career tributes in order to get food so that they wouldn't have to worry about their next meal. Rue brings up the fact that the career tributes don't need to worry about starving like she does because they already have all supplies and food. Katniss then comes up with the idea that they are going to attack their supplies and get what they want and need. They create three fires in order to distract the career tributes and be able to raid their forts while its unguarded. In result, Rue dies

2. Katniss decides to set out on a journey to find Peeta and afte realizing that he was probably by a water source, trying to survive, she goes there and finds him campflauged by the water after using his art skills to make it look so real and natural. They wander off into a cave and decide to stay there while she takes care of him and his injuries. During this time they put on a show for the audience watching the hunger games and their romance beings to rise and they grow closer - after all, they're all each other have.

"I spend the night half-sitting, half-lying, next to Peeta, refreshing the bandage, and trying not to dwell on the fact that by teaming up with him, I've made myself more vulnerable than when I was alone." (Pg. 263)

"Oh, right, the whole romance thing. I reach out to touch his cheek and he catches my hand and presses it against his lips." (Pg. 264)

3. Katniss decides to follow Claudius instructions, calling all tributes to a feast. Katniss gets attached by a knife thrown by a tribute form district 2. As her natural instinct, Katniss shoots her arrow but unfortunately misses. Her and the district 2 tribute end up on top of each other, fighting. Thankfully, there were another tribute just around the corner who threw a rock at the district 2 tribute and saved Katnisses life. In shock, she went ahead and got the bag, finding a hypodermic needle. 

""You better run now, Fire Girl," says Thresh. I don't need to be told twice. I flip over and my feet dig into the hard-packed earth as I run away from Thresh and Clove and the sound of Cato's voice." (Pg.288)


4. Without having a choice, Katniss ends up seeing Peeta in a way more than a friend. She had no one in the arena and Peeta was one of the very few who knew how she felt about being chosen for the hunger games. Because of this, I believe that her feelings grew for him and as for him, the same. Althoigh in the beginning, she neary hated Peeta. As she became desperate for someone to care for her, she had no choice but to like him. Of course later in the book, you can see that her feelings and care for him becomes sincere. The whole point of the hunger games is to kill everyone until you are the last one standing. She doesn't end up killing Peeta even though she had every opportunity to do so, this shows that she c

Aloha! My group and I are sophomores that attend Moanalua High School and we are writing to you folks to discuss an issue that we all feel is important for the sake of our own lives as well as other students. Each of us value education and constantly strive to be better students with the help of the teachers here at Moanalua as well as the great environment and community within our school. We feel that our school is one of the best public schools to be attending because of the statistics that have proven our schools’ success in education. We are proud menehunes of Moanalua High School.

Here at moanalua we have CAP classes that stand for ‘Career and Planning’. These classes are once a week and average around an hour l

ong. Within CAP we learn about ourselves and take many tests and surveys to see what our personal strengths, weaknesses, and interests are. The purpose of this class is in hopes that we will know more about what we want to be in the future and also what direction we are heading in. We have discussed colleges, made practice college application letters, learned how to write resumes, and job applications as well as many other things. One hour out of the week, we learn things that are actually really important for us to know how to do as adults and even then, there is still a long list of things that we do not know how to do. Which leads us to the topic of why we are writing this letter.

In school, we learn about core subjects such as Math, Science, History, and English. These subjects are the basics of life, at least that is what our education system has made seem like. In math we learn about Pythagorean Theorems, how to solve for x, algebra, geometry, trig, calculus and so on. In Science we learn about the gravitational pull on earth, how force fields affect a positive charge when put into a charged field, chemicals, and how to dissect . In History we learn about the Civil Rights movements and wars that occurred way before we were even thought of. Lastly in English, we learn how to structure our essays, how to analyze an excerpt, and how to read a book and interpret it from different types of perspectives. These are great things to be educated about but we do not learn things that we need to know as adults. Example, according to thoughtcatalog.com, adults should know how to pay bills, do taxes, how to get your car checked for maintenance, how to start a savings account etc. Thing such as these should be taught as necessity for our students to know before adulthood.

Learning about core subjects is very important for it teaches us things that we would need to know. Although many times students become discouraged and frustrated with learning things that they will not need in the future. By knowing what is your strengths and weaknesses with or without the personality and interests tests, students should not be required to take courses that are not necessary for their future career. If the student should change their minds after high school and switch careers, then they will need to just take the wanted course of major in college. We feel that the high school structure should be more like the way of college. In college, you take the courses that are vital and important towards your career. If you are going to major in Engineering, you would most definitely take a math course but it would not be needed for you to take an english class but instead maybe a science course. Planning accordingly to ones future plans saves time as well as energy because it will not make them feel like they are learning something totally useless for their future. Many times student say, “We won’t even need this in the future” and many times it can be proven true.

Students would still be required to take these core classes but standards should be lowered and the amount of things that are taught should be lessened and what is most general and most needed for multiple careers should be taught. We as a high school would still need to meet requirements but standards should be lower and the amount of concepts should be lessened so that students get more time to learn and perfect a certain topic. With all due respect, this is our protest against school courses and high school requirements. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Macbeth FINAL

Power and authority are the two things that most people strive to have and be. More times than we notice, we are given opportunities to hold power and authority positions and because of that, it pushes us so much closer to guaranteed success. While doing so we can easily become blinded by our own selfishness, unknowingly commit wrong actions, and go to the extremes just to pay the price for success. In Macbeth by William Shakespeare, Macbeth finds out the prophecy of him becoming king and ends up doing all that he can to fulfill the prophecy faster than expected. He turns his himself into someone he had never sought out to be and loses his whole life in the process of trying to find the most promising life of success.

         Macbeth’s road to power first began when he was on his way back from battle with Banquo, one of his friends and fellow nobleman. They were greeted by the Three Weird Sisters, also known as the three witches. When they greeted him, they said, “All hail, Macbeth! Hail to you, Thane of Glamis!”, “All hail, Macbeth! Hail to you, Thane of Cawdor!”, “All hail, Macbeth! You’ll be king one day!” (1.3.48-50) At first Macbeth was shocked and caught off guard at what they had greeted him with since he was not referred to as Thane of Cawdor but instead Thane of Glamis. Nonetheless, he was ecstatic and happy to hear the great news of his ‘promotion’ in the kingdom. His wife's first reaction was to kill King Duncan. By doing so, it would ensure Macbeth to be next in heir for king. In life, we receive blessings and even then, still look for what we can get next. As a little kid during Christmas, you open all of your presents and no matter how happy you are, you still look for more gifts under the tree just to see if there’s more. Lady Macbeth had the same mindset as a little kid during Christmas - wanting more than what they received. “He’ll never see tomorrow’s sun! Your face, my thane, is like a book. It can reveal strange things to its readers. Avoid suspicion by acting normally..” (1.5.60-62) She was hungry for more power and persuaded her husband to kill King Duncan. Macbeth ended up killing King Duncan that night because pressure and also selfishness of also wanting more power. From Act I, we see that success can make us selfish and also make us hungry for more than what we have and also that we should be grateful for what we already have instead of looking for more.

         Banquo had an idea that Macbeth and Lady Macbeth had killed King Duncan. Because of this, Macbeth felt threatened by his friend and decided that he too needed to be executed from the kingdom to ensure that no one would find out about the murder and so that Macbeth could get away with it while being king. Though, Macbeth did not forget about the prophecy from the three witches which stated in reference to Banquo, “You shall father kings, yet not be one yourself. So all hail, Macbeth and Banquo!” (1.3.67-68) Macbeth knew that it was prophesied for Banquo’s sons to be king and therefore, Macbeth ordered his murderers to kill Banquo as well as his son, Fleance. He knew that it wasn’t the right thing to do but for his sake and for his success, he knew it needed to be done. If Macbeth decided not to be king, he would live with constant fear that Banquo would slip and tell everyone that he killed the King and also in fear of Fleance taking over the kingdom as was supposed to happen according to the sisters. “It must be done tonight, away from the palace. Remember – I can’t be involved. And also, to make a clean job of it, I want his son Fleance, who’ll be with him, to share the same fate. His removal is just as important to me.” (3.1.130-135) When you become cruel and selfish just as Macbeth had become, it becomes almost impossible for you to have friends or relationships with anyone. It ruins you from the inside out. Because of Macbeth’s murder towards King Duncan, he started to feel threatened by basically everyone who he thought would blow his cover or take reign over him and felt the need to kill to guarantee no room for threat. He trusted no one and no one trusted him either. If you don’t learn how to take on authority and power while doing the right actions to get towards your success, you may put yourself in a situation where you destroy yourself, as Macbeth did.

Macbeth and his Wife had taken part in many inhumane acts and in no doubt faced the consequences. Some people believe in Karma and the saying of, "What goes around, comes around" and though others don't, it doesn't change the fact or the coincidence that when we do something wrong or bad, it feels as if we get the consequences of it in one way or another. His wife, Lady Macbeth, had encouraged him in the first place to start murdering and because of that he had gotten used to the crime that he was committing - shaping his morals into something it never was. Therefore, she too had issues that she faced. In Act five, we find that Lady Macbeth is being taken cared of by a doctor because of how abnormal she had been acting. "Not so much sick, my Lord, as troubled with numerous hallucinations that stop her from sleeping" (5.3.38-39) She began to sleep walk and also have hallucinations of the scenario when they had killed the King. The things that she had said during her hallucinations had revealed the truth that her and Macbeth were the ones who had killed him, in her hallucination she stated, "Control yourself, my lord! A soldier, and frightened? Why should we fear who knows it, when no one can challenge our authority? Yet who would have thought the old man had so much blood in him?" (5.1.32-35) The doctor and the nurse were shocked to hear that it was them who killed him. Moments later, an army of King Duncan's sons had come to Dunsinane to defeat Macbeth and end his life. They become successful in his killing and eventually one of them, Malcolm son of Duncan, becomes king of Scotland. With Macbeth and his wife Lady Macbeth dead, the kingdom lived on. Though they started off as blessed beings with fortunate prophecies, they abused what was given to them and lost all that they had - friends, relationships, trust, their dignity and their minds as well as their lives. 
      They had it all, they had all that someone could ever want and need in life though somehow it wasn't enough for them. It can be hard and difficult to be content with what's in front of you and not be greedy and want more but it is also more difficult to do the right thing when doing wrong is so much easier, in the midst of wanting more success. One of the greatest quotes, "You can gain the whole world but still lose your soul". LA2 - 4/2

Part I:

1. Yes in my opinion lady Macbeth is a cold blooded murderer because she is first a cold hearted person. What she did is very inhuman and something that only someone who is cold hearted and crazy would do such thing - murder someone so innocent.

      - "He'll never see tomorrow's sun! Your face, my thane, is like a book…" … "Look like the innocent flower, but be the snake that's lying under it." 1.5.49

      - "Tonight's great business you must leave to me. It will secure us unchallenged power for the rest of our lives." 1.5.51

      - "Look frank and innocent. To show your feelings is dangerous. Leave everything else to me." 1.5.51

2. In Act II when the servant first finds king Duncan dead with blood all over him, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth both act as innocent as they can and try to play it off as if they had no idea that that had happen - of course everyone bought into it. Lady Macbeth, as a way to show she had a real reaction, she faints on purpose. I think that this serves a purpose to make everyone buy more into their fake reactions. In these situations, it is normal for someone to faint either in disgust of blood or the thought of someone dying but it definitely helped persuade everyone else that they were just as shocked.

      - "Help me, please. [pretending to faint]" 2.3.85
   
      - "Oh, no! What? In our house?" 2.3.83

3. I'm not sure what this question is specifically asking but in act II after the murder there was a quote from Macbeth and he said something about life not being worthy of after king Duncan had died and he also said that dignity is dead etc etc. I don't know if he said this to play things off again but I think a part of him also realized that Kind Duncan was a good person who drove others to do good and also he was someone people looked up to, I'm guessing. OH! Also right after he kills Macbeth more right after he killed him, he started to freak out and he began to panic and it seemed as if he regretted doing that the second after it was done.

      - "From now on there's nothing left worth living for. Everything is a sham. Honor and dignity are dead. The wine of life has gone. Only the dregs remain." 2.3.83

      - "Who's hands are these? They're plucking my eyes out! [Groaning] Is there enough water in the oceans to wash my hands of this blood? No! More likely my hands will stain the vast green seas blood red." 2.2.73

      - "[Horrified] I won't go back! I'm afraid to think of what I've done. I daren't look at it again!" 2.2.73

4. Lady Macbeth has pressured Macbeth to do the killing and I think she personally didn't want to do it because she didn't want the blood on her hands. Not literally though because in the story she actually did touch the blood to smear it on the servants to make them look like the killers but I meant that saying in general. She didn't want to do the initial killing because if Macbeth gets caught, it'll be more his fault than hers even if she was the initial one who provoked him into doing that.

      - "Go and get some water. Wash that filthy evidence off your hands. Why did you bring the daggers with you? They must be left up there. Take them back, and smear the sleepy servants with blood." 2.2.73 (read on for macbeths reply. Lady Macbeth ends up smearing the blood on the servants)

      - "If Duncan hadn't looked like my father in his sleep, I'd have done it myself." 2.2.69 ??

5. No, now that Macbeth has killed the king, I don't think he needs to do anything else to reign as king. I think that now he has more power than ever because he was basically next in line. Wait, actually, he might need to do a few more inhumane things in order to secure his reign. That would be to kill the two sons of Duncan because they are family to King Duncan which means that they are royalty and with no doubt have more of a choice to take the reign and position of king IF they decide to. Then again, they moved countries.

      - "The spring, the source, the fountainhead of your family has been stopped." 2.3.83

      - "This murder is only the start. We should get out of the firing line. Let's ride off and not be too polite about leave-taking. Just slip away. When there's no mercy, there's no shame in stealing off." 2.3.87

Macbeth Soliloquy:

1. Macbeth I think is meant and sought out to be a good guy. A man of honesty, humility, respect, and kindness. Although there is a saying that you are who you hang out with and having a spouse who is the total opposite, well, you rub off of them after some time and sooner or later you may not realize it but you start to act the way you do. Obviously we didn't know Macbeth before this story but in Act II, you can kind of see how he changes in the way he used to talk in Act I and also in his actions towards others. In Act I he was very polite and understanding and caring and respectful to people and in Act II when Lady Macbeth persuaded him to kill King Duncan, something clicked in Macbeth and he wasn't able to keep his ground in his beliefs of what he thought was right. Now he's cold hearted, murderer, ruthless, heartless, and brave to do things that aren't right.

2. I think his future plans in act III is to of course gain the kingdom and also to constantly watch out for any threats to his power. I think he'll be compared to Stalin, a past leader of the Soviet Union, where he killed anyone who stood in his way or was a threat to his leadership and power/throne.

I don't know what to feel. My own wife just persuaded me into killing the KING. When would I ever do that and how will I ever hide the great act of injustice? I don't know what to do either. My Lady pushes me to do these things that I would've never thought of doing before and I hate it when she uses my pride against me because I'm a guy and we all know that guy's hate when their pride is attacked. I just really regret what I did and now I don't know if I should continue this path of the new ruthless Macbeth or hold my ground against my Lady and do the right things from now on.
